In April 1956, Pastor, Elder J.H. Flippin Sr. along with his wife the late Mother Miriam B. Flippin founded Liberty Church of God in Christ in Milwaukee, WI. The name Liberty was given to Pastor Flippin in a prayer meeting while on his knees. His desire for the church was that the people would always feel free to worship God in spirit and in truth. After establishing Liberty Church of God in Christ, the late Elder E. Blakely pastor of Mount Zion Church of God in Christ extended his hand in friendship and fellowship, and Pastor Flippin held services in Mount Zion beginning at 2pm Sunday afternoons. Pastor Flippin shortly thereafter moved to 1501 WestJuneau, and Sunday morning services began at 10am. This location was a blessed location simply because whichever congregation left this location was blessed to purchase their own place of worship to where we are the present 1811 W. Center St. Milwaukee, WI. Shortly the late Bishop Bailey left Milwaukee, the late Bishop P.J. Henderson was appointed Bishop of the Northwest Wisconsin Jurisdiction. Bishop Henderson appointed Pastor Flippin Superintendent of the Trinity District. Pastor Flippin Sr. Pastor Flippin resigned this position and joined theBrotherly Love District under the late Superintendent J.R. Deshazar. Again, Pastor Flippin was called upon because of his godly wisdom and asked to fill the office of superintendent of the Brotherly Love District. After the passing of Pastor Joe H. Flippin Sr., in 2007, his son the latePastor Elder Joe H. Flippin Jr. was appointed pastor, and after his passing in early 2024, Elder Dr. Kevin C White was appointed pastor in July 2024. Liberty continues to flourish, and we are looking for the Lord to take us higher in him.
